Default Reading Fault codes before 2001

Hi
I have an XJ8 year 2000 3.2 V8. My Gendan code reader is telling me there are DTC,s but not what they are. In fairness the box says 2001 onwards and my Jag is 2000. Can anyone tell me how to get the codes diagnosed accurately ( apparently I have many). Regards Irondave5110

It probably ought to read them - other tools do.

Jags were compliant years before 2001. (1995?)

Welcome to the forum Irondave5110,

This is the XK8/XKR model forum but the same OBD2 applies to your X308. A generic scantool should read the Pxxxx (Powertrain) codes. The lowest cost solution for simple powertrain code reading is Torque Android. Whichever solution you choose, once you have the codes, posting in X308 forum will get you help with accurate diagnosis.

The best place to get the correct interpretation of the codes is right here on the forum.
Read the codes and right them down exactly as they appear.
Code readers should be capable of reading codes for vehicles from 1995 onward.
