Default Rear brake bulb out

Hello hello. So, my 1997 XK8 (convertible) seems to have an issue with one of the rear bulbs failing, at least once a year. Left side(driver side). It also happens that I do not have the(semi-transparent)plastic cover, in the trunk, the right side bulb does have a cover. I’m careful about putting anything in front of left bulb, but …. First , is this an issue that is about the missing cover or is it something more sinister? Oh, and is that cover pricey?
…asking for a friend….(me)

Once or twice a year ? I would just count my blessings it’s an inexpensive remedy. I know you haven’t actually solved why this is happening, But just consider it to be one of the mysteries of the universe and keep driving. If the problem surfaces every few weeks then give it more attention.

just my opinion, based on my inability to understand the meaning of life.

Oh dear God, you a funny person! I think we must be related, or destined to meet only on the Forum.
How sad. Life is , indeed, inscrutable. I’ll stand you to a good Kentucky bourbon or an ice cold Pacifico.
Thank you for your wise insight, and a hearty laugh!

I had a Subaru Legacy that would blow it's headlight bulbs annually - and I mean almost to the day. There's a 4-day travel show in London at the start of each year and at least one of the bulbs would blow during the journey to that show, so I know it was exact. The other would invariably go within a couple of days.

UPDATE: so…. Not inclined to try changing out the failed right rear brake light, so took Jag to my mechanic. Turns out I had 3 bulbs out: RR brake/LR reverse and running lights.. Charged me $8.27, for bulbs only. They like me, but I had taken banana nut muffins and blueberry muffins. When the new, young mechanic brought the paperwork in, he asked the service manager if he should do the complementary car wash. Both serve managers AND a senior mechanic practically shouted “NO! She does her own detailing, no one else touches it!” It’s actually highlighted on my file there. Before this car, I was always puzzled by people who would turn down free wash….
