Default Rear Lights not working & Hello!

Hello All! Enjoying my new XKR Silverstone Edition Cabriolet but the
rear lights arent working, fuses are ok, ive also swapped
around the relays to check if that would be it, ive cleaned
the contacts.

Its only the rear driving lights, all the others reverse,
fog, indicators etc work fine.

First off, welcome to the site.

You said you checked the contacts, so this might not be it, but double check the ground as they have a habit of melting. Check out this thread for more information.

Default No luck, contacts are absolutely perfect.

Thanks for the idea but no luck, contacts are absolutely perfect not even slim or discoloured original width and clean as a whistle.

Should I still try and do another ground? Or am I right in assuming it isnt necessary when the contacts are perfect?

I have the feeling it must be some kind of module, according to the fusebox layout there is no fuse just for the rear lights, only for left and right side lights. Ive checked the relay by swapping it around with the other ones but no luck.

Any more ideas?

Do the rear License plate lights work??
The reason I'm asking is, all the lights that are failing are fed through
the Security and Locking Control Module (SLCM) , or the Lamp Control Module
for Bulb failure sensing. (depends on the year) The light that are working, are not..
And I don't know the model year of your car...

Fred, Silverstones were made in 2000-2001 (mostly 2001)
I think you might have the answer with the SLCM or Lamp Control Module (I don't know enough to be able to tell you which one it would be for these year)

Numberplate lights are working too, its just the rear driving lights.

You think it could be one of these modules? How can I find out?

Thanks for the help guys.

Now that were know the approximate year....
2000 has a Lamp Control Module for bulb failure sensing
2001 bulb sensing is in the SLCM.

Since the License plate lights work we know the Tail light relay is OK
Tail lights and License plate light work off the same relay.

Fuse 21 is Left hand Tail light (and Side marker in NA) Verify it is OK
Fuse 19 is right hand Tail light and both license plate lights. Must be OK as License plate lights work.

The only thing between the Relay (other than the fuses) and the lights
is the bulb sensing circuitry.

If your good with a meter I can send you the wiring diag. (PDF)
Just tell me the year and an Email Addr.

I have been using the 2001 wiring diag, as there are some rather obvious errors in the diagram for 2000.

Betting on the module or connector..

Never really used a meter properly before, all I know is one end needs to go on the cable and another on ground to get a reading. Is it easy or am I best off leaving the workshop to do it?

Before doing anything i would re-seat the connector on the Module.

Using the meter is not difficult. The difficulty is in getting access to some of this stuff. And interpreting the wiring diagram.

Where is the module to try the re-seating? Ill try that before the wiring testing.

This might help http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairElectrical.htm I went to the 2001 onelines and it gives you the locations of the fuses, relays and control modules. I have had little interaction with this problem but I am curious as to what is causing it. Please let us know.

Good Luck!

When you say rear driving lights, are you talking about the usual tail lights or the rear Fog lights?

From the original post, I believe his Fog, Reverse, Turn Indicators and Licence Plate lights all work correctly. Only the Tail Lights (read driving lights) are failing.

Because both left and right lights are failing, and he made no mention of message
indicating rear bulb failure, I'm assuming it is the SLCM or the Lamp Control module or cables/connectors that is the problem. Only thing between the source and the load.

LCM in 2000, SLCM in 2001

Any other ideas, This is interesting

Maybe too simple, but have you checked the bulbs? Sounds like the BPM is working letting you know there is a lamp out.

I started looking for the Lamp Module all I came across was a box called the ACD control unit made by Hella which I think is the Adaptive Damping Control Module? Judging by its connector and comparing with that on the technical diagram it seems to correspond to that of the Adaptive Damping Control module as it is very wide whereas the lamp module connector is much much shorter.

Ive followed the diagram generously linked and I can see the Lamp module should be in the boot slight to the right hand side but I just cant find it.

Anyone got a photo of where it is and what it looks like?

Oh and its not the bulbs Ive checked that. Ive also found a lot of used & broken 5amp fuses in the trunk so somethings being going wrong constantly.

I'm going by memory here so this may be incorrect location.

I believe I remember seeing the module at the right of the latch, under the plastic piece that covers the rear sill of the trunk.

Follow the wiring cable from the right hand lights. You should see it go behind the trunk fuse box into a channel then disappear be behind the rear sill cover.

but, like I said my memory may be fading. In any case , Follow the cable..

This is the only module I can find.

Heres an overall picture of the fusebox area if anyone can direct me where to find the module?

Thanks guys!
