Default Rear view mirror compatibility 2001 versus 2002 onwards

My auto-dim rear view mirror on my 2001 XKR has stopped dimming properly, so I am looking for a replacement.

Does anyone know if the later 2002-2006 mirrors are compatible, either physically with the windscreen mount or electronically with the connections?

I know I can get my existing mirror repaired, but I am looking at the option of buying a later model mirror instead.

Thanks for any pointers.

Is the connector. Colors and number of wires. This helps accommodate various models [ auto dim, rain sensor, neither]. This will help you get right mirror. Others may know about years.

Thanks. Do you know if physically the later mirror's mount is the same as the earlier model - i.e. if the mirrors can be swapped, even if it means re-wiring the connector?

Looks like my message got cut off. Was giving heads up to id number and colors of wires in harness plug.

You'll need someone smarter than me to assure you all years are interchangeable. John

the 2001 and older have an adjustment for sensitivity on the back of the unit, newer cars do not.

Question dibbit, the Mirror Guy!

Why not just get another 2001 Mirror that dims, then you know it will fit and it will be 2001 all over again?

Because the Donnelly mirrors from that era were prone to failure, including leaking alien blood over the interior of the car. If I am going to go to the trouble of changing the mirrors, I may as well get a more modern mirror, rather than just end up with another 17 year old mirror, that will likely fail again.

I didn't know that. I assume though it works in the same way, i.e. there are just outputs for headlights on and mirror dim.
