Removal of Headlamp Bracket Lower Torx Bolt
I recently replaced a broken headlamp washer jet on my 2005 XKR. In doing so, I also encountered the dreaded M40 Torx bolt that connects the underside of the headlamp assembly to a metal bracket. I squirted it with penetrating oil, let it sit for a while, and then used a ratchet to extract the bolt -- or so I thought. What really happened is the bolt was frozen to a brass fitting that was molded into the plastic of the headlamp case. So, the plastic broke and the bolt with its brass fitting came out as a single unit. (I was later able to separate them.) Any recommendations on what to do next? Can I just ignore the lack of a lower bolt? Can this be repaired? I sure don't want to pay $2K for another headlamp assembly.
