Not much goes through them when you are moving, there is low pressure over the bonnet and air comes out rather than in. When stopped there is a little rain that can come in, but still, it's isn't that much.

The worst part is the sun. The ends of the valve covers, the oil dipstick and some misc plastic parts take a real beating if the car is outside and uncovered for extended periods.
