Well, I have discovered this much about them (Jaguar Top Repair) ...

They have lifted a few paragraphs from my write-up on manual latch conversion and posted them on their site ...
- without attribution,
- without including the portion of the write-up stating that the manual latch procedures can be used only if the latch hoses have been disconnected and the hose ports on the pump capped. A reader who does not know this could cause damage to the system.

Not good.

Are you going to contact them about lifting your words without your permission?

You should at least contact them to make them aware that they are potentially causing harm by not offering a complete explanation about the hoses needing to be disconnected and the ports capped....

Not good.

Shame really. Would have been nice to have a local (Atlanta) shop that sells great hoses and installs them. Not to be.

Not nice to lift your stuff and present it as their own.

Not good practice for sure, but that wouldn't bother me so much if they had just included everything, so as not to mislead people.

As Jon89 said, I need to send them an email or something and hope they'll clear it up.

While you are at it tell them that the picture on their site is of a late model X150 !

Default Risk of damage from misinformation on vendor site.

Not on a crusade here, but the more I thought about it the more concerned I became about the fragment of the "manual latch" procedures which is posted at jaguartoprepair.com. It is flat out dangerous as posted.

I've sent the message below to the vendor, and hope it will be cleared up. But I'm hoping with this post to catch the eye of anyone who might have already consulted that site.

---------------------------------------------

Marvin,

Good morning. I've contacted you through EBay because I couldn't locate an email link at jaguartoprepair.com.

On your page ... Jaguar Top Repair | Convertible Jaguar Hydraulic Hose Repair and Replacement in Atlanta, GA. | Call 404-759-6600 ... there is a section titled "Convertible top: conversion to manual latch operation".

The material shown there was taken from a paper I wrote on abandoning the top latch hydraulics, and operating the latch manually instead. But on your page a critical piece of information is missing:the procedures shown can be used ONLY if the latch hoses are disconnected and the pump's hose ports capped. If a user attempts the procedures on an unmodified car, DAMAGE can occur.

I ask you to remove the partial (and misleading) information taken from my paper, or to include the paper in its entirety. If you want to link to the paper, that's fine too. You can use ... http://www.scorekeeper.com/jaguar/ManualLatch.htm
Please let me know if any questions.

Thanks,
Dennis

2002 XK8 Convertible
I have owned it about a year and got the Green Shower about a month ago. The car was a Texas vehicle (lots of heat) and has only 35K miles.
I decided to do a bunch of work since I have most of the interior pulled for this job.
The hoses where heat affected. The parts above the windshield showed the most damage, the outer layer was falling apart. The tube had just popped off the fitting. I just went back with factory hoses and all fitted back perfectly and works well.
Because I can't leave well enough alone I also decided to do the Remote Power Top Conversion. Produced by TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us.
Excellent kit, every part and detail has been provided and thought out.
Best of Liuck; Neil

Default JaguarTopRepair.com

Hello Jaguar XK8 and XKR owners.

I own and operate the JaguarTopRepair.com website. We've been offering the hydraulic hose replacement service for about 3-4 months. Most of my customers are do-it-yourselfers or Jaguar Repair Shops.

We've started offering the replacement service to give Jaguar owners another option to fixing the Jaguar Green Shower problem. I wish I had a nickel for every customer that bought the Jaguar replacement hose kit part HJB8256AB that said, "I sure wish you could come here and install these hoses for me".

For this reason, we now offer the replacement service and will travel to you to install your hoses from NY to LA.

You'd be surprised how many Jaguar Authorized Dealers and Independent Jaguar shops who are my customers that have NEVER done this repair some Jaguar shops charging as much as $6500!

The service is 100% Guaranteed! The Jaguar Green Shower is a common problem and we have been installing our newly designed hydraulic hose replacement kit, Jaguar Part #HJB8256AB for our customers on every new install.

I have customers that have used the replacement service that would be happy to speak with you about the replacement service. We recently traveled to Berlin, Ct. over the 4th of July holiday to do an install on a 1999 Jaguar XK8.

Naturally we can't post names and numbers on this site but if you give us a call, I'd be happy to give you a few referrals. Please inbox me any messages and you can get my number off of the JaguarTopRepair.com website.

Hope this helps.

Marvin

Default "Lifted" Comments

By the way gents,

I paid a web designer to build the JaguarTopRepair website. I was unaware that the designer had "lifted" info from the forum.

I will have removed. Please accept my very public apology Dennis and whoever feels like they were offended. This small blip IS NOT indicative of my service.

Also, please be reminded that albeit unfortunate for most of my customers DO NOT post their experience using my service to the Jaguar Forums. I wish they did.

Regards

Marvin,

It's not that I'm offended. The important thing is that the fragment as posted on your site is dangerous; it could cause someone to damage his car.

I hope your webmaster can fix it quickly. It should take just a moment to do.

Thanks,

Default XK8 Owner in Berlin

I am that Berlin XK8 owner and have had mjohn2001 do the work he describes on his web site. He went through hell and high water to get the job done. He knows what he's doing & I still talk to him to this day about the normal issues that jaguar owners face. He's good at what he does!!

Default Jaguar Green Shower Repaired - 1999 Jaguar XK8 - Full Hose Replacement

Here's Randy,

Although I travel all over the country to service Jaguar Convertible Top Leaks also known as the Jaguar Green Shower, Randy is local to me here in Atlanta so I didn't have to travel far to service his awesome, very well maintained 1999 Jaguar XK8.

I did a full hose replacement on all 6 lines that control his convertible top.

I replaced Jaguar Parts HJB8252AA HJC8252AA HJB8253AA HJB8256AB all 6 lines. Randy found me either via the Jaguartoprepair.com or the JaguarConvertibleTopLeak.com websites.

Randy is another satisfied customer. I have references on hose replacements that would be happy to talk to anyone who is considering using my service.

Please feel free to visit my websites for my direct telephone line. I am here to help.

Marvin
