Default replacement gas struts for XK8

Just purchased and installed 2 new struts on an 2004 XK8 -- purchased on eBay was less than $18 for both with free shipping.

Brand was BOXI --no markings of where they were made (no made in China for example) they are an exact fit replacement.

Mounting took less than 10 minutes including taking the old ones off (note I had already taken the old ones off once so taking them off again was simple). These were listed as for the XK8.

They probably will also fit other models also.

Probably worth clarifying that these are not suspension parts. For the boot lid.

So, when you push the remote trunk release, does it pop right up? Mine unlocks, but the trunk lid stays down. If I lift it (by hand), then it stays up. Just curious. Thanks for the report.

Just replaced mine as one of the originals had completely blown out and the lid would no longer even stay open on its own. I picked up a replacement set from Boxi on Amazon for <$20. As I dug into the issue, I found there are 2 different part #s, one for coupe GJA3800BB, and one for the convertible GJA3800AB. Since my gal likes to go topless, I picked up the AB version. The only wrinkle during the install is that the plastic socket casing on the female end of the piston (which connects to the trunk) was oversized and didn't allow clearance for install / operation. Fortunately the interfering areas were just soft plastic and, in less that a minute, I was able to dremel away the offending material so they could be installed. As noted, in other threads, the trunk cracks open a bit upon button push. Once I raise it about 6 inches, the struts take over and raise it the rest of the way.

I recently bought a pair on ebay, not sure of the brand, but under $20 so I'm pretty sure chinese. They fit perfect and when lid unlocked it opens a inch or so and the lid stays up just like I expect.
