Default Replacing steering wheel - help disconnecting airbags please

I will be getting my steering wheel rewrapped, and I picked up a cheap jag replacement wheel from the wrecker I'd like to put on in the meantime - can someone point me to how I properly disconnect the airbag and remove it from the wheel? (I'm ok with the mechanical side, just the electrical side procedure - don't want it blowing up in my face!). Thank you.

This is the JTIS procedure:

1. disconnect battery positive lead
2. allow at least one minute for the backup power supply to dissipate

(My preference is to do a Hard Reset by touching the disconnected positive lead to the earth lead for approx 20 seconds)

Remove air bag module securing bolts as follows (this view is from behind the steering wheel):

3. Turn steering wheel 90 degrees to the left to provide access to module LH securing bolt
4. Fully slacken captive securing bolt and remove it
5. Turn steering wheel 90 degrees to the right to provide access to module RH securing bolt.
6. Fully slacken captive securing bolt and remove it
7. Remove air bag module from steering wheel
8. Carefully withdraw airbag module from steering wheel and position for access
9. Disconnect air bag module harness multiplug and remove air bag module from vehicle

With the battery disconnected, it's extremely difficult to turn the steering! The bolts can be slackened before (1) in the procedure.

Excellent, thank you!

Got the steering wheel out. Any recommendations on where to send it for an oem-like leather rewrap?

I am looking into solutions to repair the worn leather on the steering wheel on my S-type. I found this, if it helps. It looks like they can do what you are after.
