Ok, went out and ordered 4 new coils for the right bank and put them in today. Kick me in the a---, now cyl #3 is firing just fine, but the miss has moved to cyl #5. Just for grins, swapped the new coil from cyl#5 to a good cyl and the miss didn't follow.
What's your take on this new development? At least this change has ruled out any mechanical problem which is a relief. Leaning more and more toward the ECM (PCM)????

OK! I would be looking at the wiring going back to the plug tree behind the TB between it and the fire wall. The tree is mounted on the transmission. Disconnect the battery then pull the plugs (one at a time) and spray it with a contact cleaner and check the harness to the coils and to the injectors. You moved something that made it change so check it over.

They are difficult to get to. I have not had reason to do that so I am unable to answer your question. However, I might be doing it on my car. We know that something is not right but where is it? It is strange that the problem is jumping from one cylinder to another. If you had not replaced the injectors I would be suggesting you look at them.

Gus:
The biggest question I have in this and the earlier situations, is, that while the engine is running, I can do the screwdriver check on the injector and hear it clicking away and after removing the bolt holding the coil, I can slowly lift the coil and hear the snapping of the spark, but the cylinder still does not fire. So, I know the injector is working--I can hear the clicking--and I know I'm getting excellent coil spark--I can hear the snapping of the spark--so why isn't the cylinder working (firing)? I also have excellent compression. Fuel-Fire-Compression. It should work, but doesn't.
Ideas?

Gus:
Removed the pressure sensor, cleaned--was spotless-- and replaced. Removed the tem sensor by unscrewing the nut and the rail end was not open, so my theory to flush the rail was for naught.
Going to call the ecm repair people Tuesday and see what they have to say about possible problems and repair cost.
BTW, feel free to call me anytime if only for a chat. The call today was just an absolute pleasure. I've been at this --alone--for some time now and it was great getting your input and advice. Just to have a sounding board was a great relief.
Cheers

Having same issues
Been having the same issues with my 2000 XKR conv. new battery, coils plugs, hard reset, checked intake tubes - no breaks, now I've got full set of new injectors to fit in a couple of weeks, just got to get a gasket set. I've got a week off to get it sorted, but I hope this is the last time I see RP. Mine shows Cyl # 4 misfire. Fuel filter getting done as well. misfire comes and goes in sporadic intervals. I'll stop at lights and it may jump in but could disappear as soon as it comes in- totally random. Are there ignition control modules on this model?

All:
Had to order the correct tools to get the ECM out. Needed a 5 point, tamper proof Torx set to get what I need. I had the 6 point ones and no one in this area had the 5 point, so ordered.
So, sending the ECM in for diagnostic check and repair if necessary, will have to wait until next week...then 3 to 5 days turn around, so two days for it to get there, 3 to 5 days for repair and 2 to 3 days to get it back. So will not know if that fixes my problem for at least close to two weeks of waiting............Love these Jaguars.

All:
Couldn't just sit here, so made my own Tamper proof 5 point tool. Worked like a champ, ECM on the way for diagnostics and repair if necessary.
Petes76: I agree, That sounds like a lot of work, if it is all necessary. Good luck...
Cheers

Restricted performance update XK8
Gus and All.
Well my Darling (XK8) is back home and as of now, running as sweet as a top.
What they did and found, then corrected:
To began with, they had to re-do (check) everything I had done--New plugs, coils, injectors, fuel filter and compression checks, tracing wires from coils and injectors to ECU (M). I had sent the ECU to ASI and they said nothing was wrong with it.
Then since nothing was amiss, they pulled the valve cover on that bank to inspect cam etc. All was beautiful, nothing wrong.
After all was said and done, the #5 injector was dead. They replaced the injector with a new one and bang!! car ran like a top.
Now mind you, this was after I had replaced all the injectors and it still missed on #5 cyl., I swapped injectors and coils around to see if anything changed and it still missed on #5. So took it to the shop. (I had spent two weeks on it)
I can't explain why a new injector was what it needed, but there you have it. Down for about three weeks, with muco dollars spent and it didn't fix the problem. Take it to the shop and paid them for an all new front for their building (just kidding) and they fixed it with a new injector. I love these Jaguars. ( They had it One week )
Cheers

I think you need to get your money back for the injectors…
All:
Solved the problem. Purchased a set of remanufactured injectors from an online dealer on EBay. Purchased them on the 27th, received them on the 29th at 1:30--free. Amazing!
After testing the ones in the car, found one dead and since the mileage on the car is at 97k, figured that another would soon follow, so went the replace all option. Car now purrs like a real cat should.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions and help. Funny no one ever mentioned injectors....
Cheers and Happy New Years to all.......
