Default RHD Donor Engine in LHD Car? - RESOLVED

This may be a really stupid question, but does it matter which Drive side an engine comes from when replacing the motor?
In other words ... will a RHD engine work in a LHD car or does it even matter?

My concern is in the bolting up of the externals such as the power steering ....

I didn't think it mattered ....... until you asked the question.

The XK8/XKR engines were batch built at the Bridgend engine plant in Wales before being sent to the old Jaguar factory production line in Coventry, England.

Logic suggests there is no difference in the basic engine destined for a LHD or RHD vehicle. JEPC doesn't indicate any difference but practice in the UK motor industry is another thing! For example, you could expect to find a threaded hole for a fixing bolt and find it's not tapped.

I do recall reading the failed Nikasil units were rebuild by an external supplier and just went back into the manufacturing/replacment chain regardless of destination so this again suggests it doesn't matter if it's for LHD or RHD.

I didn't think there were any RHD engines in the states. But you can also use a XJ8 engine.

I don't think there's any difference between LHD & RHD but ............. obviously, engines in cars destined for markets in the Southern Hemisphere will turn anti-clockwise, whereas Northern Hemisphere engines turn clockwise.

Default Thanks Guys

Thanks for you input gentlemen ....
I have found a replacement engine (another LHD XK8) that had rear side damage with good running motor and other asst goodies I will be able to use....So That part is solved.

The reason I was asking that question was because I was looking at a motor in the UK that had come from a RHD vehicle and was planning on shipping it here (it was a really good deal) but since I found this other donor car close to home I didn't feel like waiting all the time it would take to get the UK engine here and installed

I had also looked at XJ8 motors

BTW: Good One Devon

From the question, I thought you were considering an engine from either the UK or Australia.

Good to hear you've found a suitable donor vehicle in the US. I've marked the thread 'RESOLVED'
