Rough running after TB and MAF clean
Guys, I’m new to the site (despite 2 years of XK8 (2001) ownership) I’ve recently cleaned the MAF and TB and now she runs really rough. Idle is good but as soon as I touch the pedal the revs dip before increasing. When driving this translates as a prominent stutter in acceleration. I’ve gone through the whole cleaning process again and checked for air leaks post MAF. I’ve found a hole in the Cat converter post 02 sensor near the exhaust joint but nothing else, any advice would be hugely appreciated
Is it possible one of the MAF wires broke when cleaning ? Be sure not to touch the wires with the cleaner nozzle.
Or there might be debris obscuring the wires deep inside the MAF.
I’ve had issues with performance after cleaning the MAF that were 100% resolved by re-cleaning it. It certainly looked clean with the 1st and 2nd cleaning, but going over it again with the CRC brand of MAF cleaner did the trick.

Multiple successive MAF sensor cleanings are always a good idea. Whenever I pull one for cleaning, I do three separate squirt-and-dry procedures before reinstalling it. As mentioned above, never touch the elements with anything except the liquid spray itself....
Zray, Jon, thanks guys. Took your advice and cleaned the MAF again, took it for a short drive and all was well at gentle throttle.....as soon as I pushed it the issue returned. Stripped out MAF and cleaned once more and this time all went well until the engine really warmed up then it’s started hesitating again but this time a code was thrown up pointing to the MAF! Fortunately had a spare pattern one which I swapped out and it’s running sweet. Thanks for keeping me focused on the MAF I was on the verge of firing the parts cannon.
Glad you resolved it. Always a good idea to keep a spare MAF sensor on hand. I found the correct Denso 197-6030 one for my wife's 2006 XK8 about 4 years ago on Amazon for about $60 so I ordered it. I know if we keep this car long enough, I will eventually need it. Sooner or later these MAF sensors wear out regardless of how many attempts you make to clean them....
