San Fernando Valley - Need New Mechanic
Hi Jag Peers,
I need to find a new mechanic in Los Angeles, hopefully in the valley. I have been using Rene off of Reseda and Sherman way for many years. He has always been fair and trust worthy.
But the quality of his work has become horrible. And every time I drop off my car he has it for weeks just to fix the simplest thing.
And now after having the car for weeks 3x over, every time he is supposed to fix one thing, he doesn't fix it and messes up something else.
Looking for a recommendation for someone you have used that you like.
The pressing issue is that this summer I had the entire AC system replaced. Everything inside the dash.
Since the replacement the cooling capability is 1/2 of what it should be. And when accelerating you can hear what sounds like gas pressure running through the lines inside the dash. First thought it was air in the AC system. But have vacuumed the system multiple times and the issue has not changed.
My Dad has a great Jag Mechanic down in Huntington. But my experience has been with every Jag Mechanic (including 3 dealerships) is when my Jag goes to get anything fixed, it always needs to go back again to get something fixed that wasn't an issue when it went in. So I would like to find someone as close to Encino as possible.
Thanks for sharing your mechanic.

Hey Dave--been a while.
Sorry to hear about Rene as he had been my "go-to" guy for decent quality/reasonable price work. He did front brakes for me a couple of months ago.
The other place I have used is Just Jaguar over at Woodman and the 101. They are very professional (owned by an English guy and his wife) and clearly know their Jaguars. I understand that they often help out Galpin Jaguar. The downside is that they are pricey but probably still a notch less than going to the dealer.
Another place I have wanted to look into was Steve's Jaguar service in Canoga Park--keep meaning to pass by there. There was also a place I used to bring my BMW at Ventura and Lindley in Encino and I think they also service other European cars. Finally there was that Bonnet-to-Boot place that used to be on Ventura east of White Oak. That guy is English and he moved his shop to Vanowen Street in Reseda and the couple of times I spoke with him he really knew his stuff.
Good luck.
Doug

Hi Dave,
I use Sako's Automotive on Parthenia 1 block west of Reseda. He works on all of my cars, including the 3 Jags. I have referred many to him including several forum members. Phone number is (818) 701-7772. If you'd like a personal introduction to Sako, I'd be happy to meet you there. Just p.m. me if so.

Thanks,

I've been very satisfied with John at European Auto Service, 18520 Wyandotte St, Reseda, CA 91335 (2nd door west of Reseda Blvd). He has a lot of bays and mechanics working on exotic cars. Things move fast there and prices are good.
Last month, Bob at Bob Cutler Automotive, 38 Waverly Dr, Pasadena, CA 91105 diagnosed and repaired my AC leak and failed pressure switch. They are methodical.
