Default Sat Nav reports "Error reading DVD ROM disc"

Hi,

My 2004 XKR sat nav reports "Error reading DVD ROM disc" when I turn it on.

The disc is a genuine Jag disc, Jaguar part No. 10E898 AF, DENSO part No. 4642 10-5230.

The disc is readable in my PC drive, but there are a few very, very fine marks on it (too fine to be felt).

I've searched the forum and there appears to be very few problems related to the sat nav so is there any way of checking if the problem is with the disc or the head unit?

Appreciate your help

If you can read it on your PC, try using a disk to disk copy utility to copy it on a blank DVD-R.

That can happen if the motor that spins the DVD fails. Try paying close attention to the orientation of the disc label as you put the DVD in the drive a few times. If it always comes out in virtually the same orientation, the motor has given it up.
If it appears it does spin the DVD, trying another DVD may be in order.

Good luck!

When I try to copy the CD onto my C: drive I get the error:
"Cannot copy ALLDATA: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I can copy the others one by one, do I need the ALLDATA?

Thanks

That is not going to work. You need to use a DVD burning utility such as CD burning software, Burn DVD discs and Blu-ray Discs | Nero Burning ROM 12 to copy the entire disk at once.

WhiteXKR, thanks for that, I've now downloaded & installed Nero Burning & copied the Sat Nav disc but I'm afraid the result is the same "Error reading DVD ROM disc"

xjrguy, I've checked the disc position as per your suggestion and it is spinning as it's coming out in different positions.

So, if the disc can be read & copied then I suppose it has to be a fault with the unit itself??

Based on everything so far then, I'll agree it seems to be the reader itself. Bummer!

Just an update on this.

Following the threat of court action the dealer, Lancaster Reading, has now agreed to collect the car, leave me with a courtesy car & fix the problem.

I'll let you know what I think when I have a working Sat Nav system.

I have the same problem on an intermittant basis on my 2003. If I stop, turn off the ignition and start up again it has always returned to normal.

Default 2004 x350 sat nav problem

I updated my sat nav disc all was well left the car in my garage for two months with battery disconnected until my return. All connected again and set of shopping so I decided to enter the post in sat nav then the problem occurred the directions from the sat nav had me going through fields etc also a small symbol was showing top left of the screen which according to the manual informed me that there was no satellite signal.
Has any body else had this problem.
