The sat nav display works. But, the screen gives every appearance of 'de laminating'. There are small circular 'splotches' which distort or block the display. And, the display is unreadable in bright light.

Number of questions -
1: Can the screen be replaced independent of the unit?

2: Is this something that a semi cimpetent home mechanic can do - event if they are a dunce at electrics?

3. Are replacement screens available?

 

Should have mentioned the failing screen is in a 2006 XK8

 

The screen can be replaced if you completely disassemble the unit and manage to find a proper replacement.

They are all susceptible to glare. Terrible in direct light. The X150 is no better.

I have a full replacement available. Cheaper and easier to buy mine. Less than the ones on eBay. PM if interested.

2. Yes, very easy to swop. Pop the wood trim off, 4 screws and two plugs and it's out.

Late doing so, but want to offer kudos to DSD - acquired a replacement from him, simple remove/replace, and Robert is you dad's brother! All fixed.
