Default Scan tools, who has them?

Since I had the Restricted Performance pop up, I've been considering buggin a code scanner. I've gone 2½ years without one, and I'm sure I could get by without one, but it would be nice to have one. I could just have somebody pull the codes for me (and I probably will, since, even if I buy one, it probably won't be immediately) but I thought it would be nice to see who has one, and if you think it was worth the money.

I have 3 scanners. One that cost $29.95 at Costco "P" codes only, Torque "P" codes with charts, graphing and realtime information and my first one from ProScan and that one is computer based. Like with all scanners get the codes and look it up on the OBD II code list for your car.

I just ordered one online but don't have it yet. I decided it's almost a necessary tool if you work on any modern cars yourself.

I use Torq on my Android phone. It's awesome. My old scantool is now obsolete in my eyes. Keith, if you want my old one, just PM me your address and I'll stick it in the mail tomorrow. It's an Actron something or other. Free for the taking. It's not fancy, but it reads the codes.

Oh, in regards to your questions. Torq on my Android was definitely worth the money. The app only cost $5, and the bluetooth interface cost about $52 including shipping from China. The way I fiddle with cars, I couldn't live without it.

I now have two...the AE via my work laptop and hardwire cable for those really intense diagnostics, and the Torque w/ a bluetooth OBD for quick code checks and data viewing...but I'm still working on some of those advanced sensor access PIDs with another member. Custom sensor configurations...watchout!

I have an AutoEnginuity and beside telling you the code so you can see if it's the same old problem and/or make an adjustment, you can reset and get going again..Mandatory for a trip into the middle of nowhere IMHO. $99

I forgot I have a Ultra Gauge mounted in my S-Type but it does not work well with XK8. However, it has paid for itself 10 times over. It gives me a host of information as I am driving along with OBD codes when they happen but it does not work on the XK8.

H20 and Reverend Sam (or anyone who might know),

Maybe a stupid question here...on the website for Torque, it says that it works with OBD2 only...most cars after 2001, and a few cars going back to 1996. Do you happen to know whether my 1997 is OBD2, and would be compatible with the Torque app?

Thanks for the help
