Seat air bag issue

Seat air bag issue
Hi gang. I have a 2003 XKR Convertible with an airbag issue. it blinks 2-2 so I know it's the drivers seat air bag. I checked underneath the seat and all the connections are good-no broken wires. I realize I will have to take the seat apart to check inside. Before I do is there a typical issue with these air bags and is there a part I should have on hand so I don't have to do it twice? thanks

Hi Paul, this job will take about an hour to complete. I don't have pictures so I'll try and talk you through it.
If you haven't taken the leather off the seat back before then look at reverand Sam's utube video, you'll need it.
Remove the seat and the leather facing up to the seat handle, this is where you will see the explosive charge for the airbag.
Disconnect the charge. The part you need is the plug with the two pins. The plug is clipped together, open it up. Now you will see the 2 pins. You will also see that these pins are free to move in and out by 2-3 mm. It's this movement that is causing the 2-2 code. As you connect the plug the pins are pushed back and although they appear to be connected, a rise in temperature will create a higher resistance and then the code.
What I did was to place a small piece of plastic between the 2 pins at the back of the plug. This stops any moment of the pins and ensures a full contact upon reconnection.
I also re ran the wire so it had a little more slack.
Once done, reconnect, refit the seat facing and finally refit the seat. Make sure the loom under the seat is not chafed and all plugs are properly seated and you should be ok.
Hope this helps you out. Ps, my 2-2 code never came back.
