Seat Belt seatbelt Disaster
Ok, maybe not a disaster but a lot of cursing was involved.....'97 Coupe (should be listed below, but seems there has been some updating of the Forum.)
So, my driver's side seat belt locked up. Couldn't get it to rewind, so decided to remove it and get it refurbished or replaced. I am aware that there is an explosive charge in it...So far this hasn't gone off...
I removed the interior cladding. No problem. Top seat belt bolt. No problem.
Rail that holds the lower seat belt loop. Problem. Can't get a straight shot to the bolt. My seat module is non-op, so couldn't remove the seat. Torn up that bolt (which I think and hope is a Torx, but now I'm not sure.) Gave up on that.
Removed the seat belt module. That came out easily, but tore up the Torx disarming bolt (that's what they call it) so assume the retractor is "live."
Noticed the plastic box on the side of the unit was kind of catywompus, so foolishly pulled it off. Found a cockeyed spring. Tried to push it back in and that blew up, fortunately not reaching my face, but still.
So, where I am....Do I cut the belt off the car?
If I can get the belt off in one piece, can I have this thing rebuilt? Issue with shipping it?
Should I just cut the belt off and try to get a new/used belt that matches? Who sells new or used belts in a safe manner?
Once tensioner is removed, should I throw it across the parking lot to get it to fire off (active disarming)?
I want to complete this job safely, without spending 1,000 bucks or losing an eye. Not in that order, but either outcome is unacceptable.
Suggestions please.
Thank you all. I know the experts out here will know how to save the day! No pressure tho!

no problem. I go mine fixed for a very reasonable price at https://www.safetyrestore.com/. just remember to disconnect the battery when you put it back. the charge can go off easy since it does not take a plug to arm.
Thank you. In the light of day, I've been able to get everything disconnected except the belt strap. But I tucked everything away so should be able to get to work with a grinder/easy-outs.
And Safety Restore told me I could send it in for repair !
Thank you for the heads-up !
