Default security lock module

Can someone tell me how to remove the fuse box in the trunk so I can get the Secuity Lock Module out. I can see three bolts on the outside of the fuse box but the module is somehow fixed to the fuse box.

Thanks

Keith

First disconnect the battery.

Then remove the bolts that fix the fusebox assembly to the floor and side of the trunk. There are 2 or 3 cable harness retainers that also need to be pulled free.

Lift up and partially flip over the fusebox. The SLM is simply fixed to the bottom of the fusebox assembly with some plastic tabs and snaps out.

May I ask why you are removing it?

My remotes don't work ,and I have tried everything else ,so I have reluctantly come to the conc lusion it must be the Security Module.

Keith,

You could be setting off on a one way street via your Bank to the Dealer if the SLM has failed.

Are you absolutely certain the remotes you have are OK first by pairing with another XK8/XKR or XJ8/XJR of the same period?

The remotes work, tested them on another xkr, even tried a known working remote from another car and my car would not regognise it [this was using the Jaguar computor gubbins], Tried a new aerial,no good. As I can't find a second hand SLM looks like it has to be a new one.

I wonder if this could be another 'dry joint' related issue like the ABS modules?

It's worth opening the tin and having a look before burning the ££'s.

I have got the SLM at work and just opened it up and it appears to be perfect with no corrosion/dry joint etc. If every thing ese connected with the SLM works, ie. locks with the key, alarm sets ok,windows and hood ok, could it be the remotes have somehow got out of 'sink' with the car?

Keith,

If the SLM was at fault, I'd expect one or more of the functions it controls to fail but this isn't the case. You've also eliminated the aerial and verified the remotes can successfully pair with another XKR.

I've come across a Restraint Module getting out of sync and having to be reconfigured on the dealer diagnostics system so it's not impossible that any of the programmed modules can do the same.

As the module doesn't have physical damage it would seem a replacement could be unnecessary but reprogramming is looking more likely as the solution.

Graham, the trouble is that Tom at TL Jaguar tried to programme the fobs and he said the SLM is not communicating with the fobs, hence he said the SLM is u/s

I have personally seen one SLM have a reciever fail, and heard of at least one other...so I know for a fact it does happen.

I would suggest trying to find a used one though if you are not in a big hurry. If you can match the part number and VCATs code (see label in the boot under sidewall carpet beside spare tire well) it will be plug and play with no dealer programming needed. Used ones are rather inexpensive.

The trouble is WhiteXKR I'm struggling to find a second hand one in the u/k,plenty of earlier ones but not for my year or later.Do you know if the receiver module ,which I note is seperate from the other ones, is the same for all cars?

I am not sure.

I would replace the entire SLM. I tried once just replacing the receiver circuit board from a known good but different SLM module and unfortunately it did not solve the problem. Ultimately a complete SLM (used) replacement did.

Keith,

Eurojag at Darlington had three 2003 XK8/XKR's in for breaking in December. Worth a call if you haven't tried them already. I doubt they sell too many SLM's.

post up your VCATS, or look on EBAY in the US and link the item you need; perhaps we can help you get a good deal over here and ship it over to you. I presume the US-Euro barrier on these modules shouldn't be an issue, and needs only reprogrammed to euro requirements once installed?

Thanks H20boy
the number is LJE 2600 BC don't worry about the other numbers as I can get it programmed to my car. I understand though it must come from a convertible.
I don't know if US ones can be programmed for a UK car

I've also read it must come from a Convertible or your roof pump will run continuously.

Here's TSB 418-03 on module compatability:

418-03 Control Modules - Compatibility.pdf

The market is programmed at build stage which suggests a US module can be reprogrammed for a UK vehicle.

simkins, do you have a budget? (US dollars please ) There are a couple available here at EAG, and I could ship it to you. Send me a PM, we can work out the details. I read on the UK forum that a BB worked in the place of a BC. Maybe an AB can be 'programmed' to be as new as your BC.

I've had some help getting parts from your side of the planet, just trying to pay it forward.
