Select Edition Warranty and Struts
Anyone have any luck in getting their struts covered under warranty?
I have a 2005 XK8 convertible just turned 50,000. the select edition warranty ran out yesterday. It is currently in the shop for 50,000 service and bad suspension/rattle underneath somewhere, goes over dips/bumps like a truck. Spent a year at another dealer trying to find culprit but came up with nothing. I replaced all 4 tires -didn't help. Dealer says I need rear struts @ $1300. I say my warranty covers suspension system, they say they're not included. What's up with that? Supposedly anything that isn't specifically mentioned as non-covered is covered. They are not specifically mentioned.
I have a call in to the factory. If they continue to say no, it's a wear/tear item, is it expected that a lightly driven 1-owner car should need shocks at say 40,000 since this problem has been haunting me for a year now? Any feedback is appreciated.

Shocks themselves, maybe 40k is a little light for replacemeent mileage. But, if the bushings are bad, then it is just as expensive to swap the shock than remove and repress in a bushing. Lower bushings no longer sold separately anyway.
For knocks in the front, definitely change the $15 each sway bar bushings yourself. Easy job, and that cleared my noises up front. Upper shock mounts could have crumbled to metal/metal contact making noise. My front shocks are on 117k miles and still original.
