I got a 2008 S-Type for my other car when I don't want to drive the 2004 XK8. They both have the 4.2 6 speed powertrain. The S-type is much quicker. Both cars are well maintained and in good shape. I wish I couls switch the performance. The S-type will chirp into second gear.

My XK8 will get going when the revs get up past 4500 or so in sport mode. The thing is that the way it is geared I can only redline it in 1st and 2nd. I don't know what the final ratio is, but it seems high. But it is fun sometimes to pass a slowpoke in sport mode and mash the throttle so it roars right next to them.

I'm just saying I don't have enough road to redline the car, maybe in 3rd. The speed limits around here top out around 65-70 mph. Of course that's just a guideline :^), but I don't think I will ever hit the electronic limit.

I love the fact that in 6th gear at 110 kph mine is at about 1800 rpm. I can get 600 km on a tank of fuel on a long run
