Thanks for these descriptions, I have the same SDZ on the ID plate and was wondering what the other color descriptions were.

So for us a AKE Sable shifter knob would probably look best.

I think you could go with either Sable or Cashmere. I found a Cashmere one but would have been just as happy with Sable.

Default Polished alloy

I am sure won't suit everybody's tastes but I really like the polished alloy shifter and J-gate surround on my XKR.

I was really unimpressed with the flimsy plastic OEM J-gate surround - on a car of this "value" - it was appalling. For many years I had a really nice bur walnut shifter with a gold growler in the centre which was nice but when I saw the alloy J-gate surround I had to get one plus the matching shifter knob. The knob has a really nice weight to it - you can "flick" it more than "push/pull" it.

The polished alloy looks very nice, but it would not match my interior without other cosmetic upgrades.

However, the biggest issue is heat. When the outside temperature exceeds 100F, the interior of my car can hit 125F-135F. Grab an all metal knob after it has baked all day in the parking lot and you will let it go quickly!

I have a polished metal shift knob in my MX5, while driving it's very cool however after stopping it heats up quite a bit from the transmission heat being transferred to the knob. Ambient heat does not seem to affect it.

Worrasf, care to share where you got the polished surround and shift knob?

Sure, there is a guy on ebay UK who makes them - he advertises from time to time. Just had a look but I dont have his details I'm afraid.

Regarding heat - I only wish we had temps of 100 degrees F in the UK - I'd love to have that problem
