If I showed you a picture of mine, you'd all flip!

If anyone with a single button at the bottom of the plate (as opposed to the two button version where the cruise control used to be the other button) would like a brand new steel surround, I have a brand new one that came with some trim rings that I purchased. That should make a permanent solution to a cracked surround, just let me know and I can make arrangements to ship.

I was interested, but then I remembered, my car has the cruise control button. Thanks for the offer.

I put one on my '99 XK8 about 3 years ago and love it! It fits exactly and is a much better unit than the plastic junk!

I have a scratch on mine that won't polish out. I PM'd him for it.

If anybody wants a slightly scratched metal one to paint black I'll pass mine on after I get the replacement.

By any chance is it a two button unit?

Darn. :/
I guess I'll have to shell out some money for that as well. I guess I could spend a week without food...

This exact trim piece was one of the only faults Jeremy Clarkson found with this car when new (see recent old Top Gear thread for that link).

I may do the same- will wait and see what you guys think of them first!

I'm awaiting Gilbert's PM on ebay saying that he has em in stock for sale. When he does, I'm ordering mine. As soon as it's installed I'll update this thread.

Looks great. I think I'm purchasing mine tonight. I've had more pressing matters put that on hold.

So I caved in under the need to compliment the set of stainless steel instrument rings, and purchased the shifter trim. I could not have been happier so far...xcept for rather involved installation .
I opted to keep the black trim surround for increased contrast as my car comes with rather bleak tan interior. The laser cut (probably) selector modes look fantastic especially when back lit at night...Worth every penny!!!
Hope you guys find the pics inspirational

D.

Danny, that looks really nice. I've had to postpone my purchase because of more important mechanical stuff. I think I'm currently at the point I might finally take the plunge...

I know it has been a while since any posts to this thread but I'm in the middle of this now and have a bit of an issue. My old plate got destroyed when the mirror seal went and dripped black cr-p all over it. I ordered and received the aluminum replacement one. All went well with disassembly until I got to the actual point of lifting the old j-gate plate off the base assembly. At the spot where the alarm indicator light is it just doesn't want to separate. I'm afraid to exert too much force and end up breaking some other part. Should that light shield button push out from the back or what? In the picture below it is the button just above and to the left of the plate and that seems to be the last thing holding the plate to the base.

This would be called "asked and self answered"!

Went back out and fiddled with it and found it just unscrews from the top.

Change-over complete.

A vast improvement from the condition of the old one.

Talk about a current OLD thread. I just saw these on ebay and was thinking about getting one but was also put off by the screw attachment. Will give it some more thought.

Mine was delivered yesterday. The top right of my original piece, from the P down to the D, is actually missing.
