Default Are these aluminium trim pieces still available?

I stumbled across one a few months back, but was working on a different project at the time so didn't buy then. Now I want to get one I can't find them anywhere. Sellers name listed above doesn't come up on e-bay search. The one I stumbled across a short while back was out of Canada I believe.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi, I bought one and returned it.

Just did not fit properly, the lights did not come through and was not a smooth or flush install.

Idea was good but the end product did not live up to Jaguar expectations or quality.

Ok, thought they were decent quality, that's a shame. Did you get yours from the same seller ?

Thanks

Just browsing eBay and noticed these. It looks like they have been redesigned and refined significantly. Jaguar XKR XK8 Billet Aluminum Shifter Trim Plate 1996 2006 5 Speed | eBay

Default J-Gate Shifter Plate Replacement...Trail has gone cold

I recently purchased an 2002 XK8 Coupe and I'm going through it to bring it up to scratch mechanically and cosmetically. The black plastic shifter face plate that immediately "guides" the selector and is marked in white "P", "D", 2-4 etc. is breaking up. I followed this tread with great anticipation but the polished metal aftermarket plates do not seem to be available any longer. As I'm sure anyone that has been here before will know, the parts houses sell the entire shift mechanism unit for around $400 (oh boy) and most of the used units I've run across in my month-long search are about $170 and either already cracking, or look scruffy and I really don't need the entire mechanism!

I'm pretty stumped. Anyone that has a decent one they can offer for sale or a suggestions or lead would be GREATLY appreciated?

Best Regards, Al

I purchased mine from the ebay guys years ago, not sure which one but last I looked he was not there. SA Barrett lists one at the end of their catalog. No idea on price.
You will like it better than the plastic and I am sure it is cheaper.

Thanks LaRue. Cheaper and better seems like a no brainer. When I google 'SA Barrett' I get a dealership in San Antonio. Do you mean Barratt or am I off base?

Don't give up on the guy from Canada on ebay. solar_signa is his seller name. I have been in touch with him over the winter and he only produces these plates during the summer months. He told me more would be available in June.

Sorry, I was answering in a hurry. It is one of the sponsors for this forum, SGN Barratt, way in the back of the catalog.

My question is... is it easier to replace the gate shifter plate or the surround trim piece? Also, do you have to remove the gate shifter plate to remove the surround trim?

Nothing. Until I can find a replacement I opted for a repair with heat shrink detailed here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...repair-223719/
In practice it looks surprisingly goood.

If you find anything better let me know.

Well, yesterday I found an original part from a scrapped XK8. It was offered on a german used parts trading Website. If you want me to look for another one, please let me know.

Joerg
