Default Should I feel bad?

Well after 5 years of using my growler as a daily driver, I have now replaced it with a 2007 BMW 550i and I have to tell ya, it feels like a finely tuned piece of machinery on the road! I still have my XK8 but it will be mostly a weekend driver! Here's a pic of both!

Absolutely not, you have retired a 21 year old Brit for a 11 year old Kraut all your problems are over.

Well....congrats I guess.

It may be a "finely tuned piece of machinery" but it sure is aesthetically uninspiring. Not ugly though. Not sure how to describe it.

I would say, "uninspiring", just like you did. ..... (no offense to the OP intended)

on a positive note, when you are driving it, you can't see how it looks. So there's that.

Did you go on the training course to learn how to drive it like a BMW owner?

I'm not so sure. If you compare the two on reliabilityindex the XK8 comes out as more reliable overall with an average repair bill of £255 compared to an average repair bill of £498 for the German.

BMW 5 Series - Car Reliability Search | Reliability Index | How reliable is your car?

Jaguar XK Series - Car Reliability Search | Reliability Index | How reliable is your car?

The figures are actual warranty claim costs.

Should you feel bad? If it makes you happy, no.

Wouldn't be my choice.

Yes, shame on you!

Yes, functional is about the only compliment I can find for it. The huge majority of BMWs are ugly and most are boring to drive. Not as boring as an Audi as at least BMWs are RWD. To start to get excitement you have to go for one of the M cars and even then there is just no sense of occasion because they are mainly just saloons.

Nice, but everybody and their uncle has a Bimmer around here, almost all are black. My Jag sticks out like a rose among thorns.

Were you required to knock over a couple of cyclists before your purchase? Or just run over an old lady in a crosswalk after?

(I loved my 633csi, shhhhh)

Drive whatever you want with no regrets about how others perceive your choice. A couple of months ago I came whisker-close to replacing my trusty ol' 2005 S-Type 3.0 with a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 with only 20,000 miles on the clock. A very fast, very beautiful, and very timeless car that I know I would have loved as my daily driver. The only reason I did not do so was because I could not come close to justifying it financially....

theres something to be said for NOT seeing an identical car headed your way all the time. If there's a small price to pay for that privilege, then I'll likely grumble a little and then pay it. It's worth the price of admission 99% of the time.

When you drive a Jaguar, the turn signals often don't work. When you drive a BMW, you don't often use your turn signals.

You do realize you are asking this on a Jaguar enthusiast forum? I believe you would get quite a different response if you asked on, say, a BMW forum.

At least you kept the old girl for weekend drives to set your mind straight. Everybody at some point or another has had “that” car which they drive throughout the week to run up the miles on, only to enjoy their true passion on their off time. If you had purchased the BMW as a weekend deiver and kept the Jag as a daily beater, only then would I start to wonder...

Default responses

Thanks all for the responses! There's just no way I could ever get rid of the Jag after all that I've put in it. Its gonna stay with me for as long as I'm on this earth! (BTW - my boy keeps asking me if I'm gonna leave it to him when I die! LOL!).

On BMWs -Very true = everyone does have a Bimmer but I've always wanted one and I didn't get just get a regular one. Its the 550i with a V8 along with the sports package - better handling and suspension than the regular ones. This beast produces 360 hps also so it moves when you want it to!

All that aside - I don't get nearly as much compliments as I did driving the Jag but that's what weekends are for now! Sunset drives with the top down = life is good! Cheers all!

Um, congrats op?

Honestly, I think it's a good idea to get the Bimmer for daily driving. It'll get rid of any desensitization you could've accumulated. Now, you're Sunday drives will be an occasion unlike the rest of your week.

All kidding aside, sometimes you want to fly under the radar, and the 5 series is good for that.
