Default single din audio unit replacement

Ok I'm going to try to just get right to the point. I have a 2000 XK8 convertible and I really hate the factory audio unit. I am looking at getting this JVC unit. http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?mo...hId=139&page=1 So to install this, since the jaguar doesn't have a normal single din radio, I would need something like this. Buy Jaguar XJ Car Stereo Fitting Kit online at Nexxia but I haven't been able to find one in the US. Also if I did find one and made that replacement, would the factory amp in the jag work? or would I need a new one? I am not worried about the CD changer, I never use it. Thanks for the help!

Since you're talking about an amp I presume you have the premium audio system installed in your car. I have just the standard audio system so I can't give you an exact answer.

I was thinking of replacing my head unit too but then decided not to as I'm replacing the Sat Nav unit with a smartphone which will also become my media center.

What I did find out anyway was that I would have had to buy a separate DIN to Jag audio wire harness. I'm guessing you'd have to do the same. There are some which will enable you to use the steering wheel controls as well...

I did not realize there was a premium vs standard audio system. In that case, I probably just have the standard which sounds like it doesn't have an amp. in that case, can I just plug the single din audio unit right in? of course i would also need the fitting kit i think, but woud the audio work?

I might be wrong but I think you still need something like this:

In Car Entertainment, Bluetooth & Multimedia fitting solutions and interfaces

or these two if you want to have the steering wheel controls too:

In Car Entertainment, Bluetooth & Multimedia fitting solutions and interfaces
In Car Entertainment, Bluetooth & Multimedia fitting solutions and interfaces

I never bought these cables as I never did swap out the head unit so it would be great if someone else can confirm this...

A while back I had a look behind the head unit and took some photos. Thought I'd post them here for reference. Be sure to have your security codes handy if you do take the connectors out as otherwise you won't be able to use the system. In the first picture I've taken the antenna plug out (hangin in theleft) and the CD changer Ai-Net plug (the round socket on the right).

When in doubt, buy from Crutchfield.

If you want the remote controls on the steering wheel to work you will need the CT2 connector system, with the JVC patch lead - also on the nexxia website Jaguar XJ Steering Control interface (used to be PC99 steering wheel connector system but thats discontinued) I did the same conversion on a 1999 XK8. see the link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ontrols-56937/ for details.
