Default Size and/or source for caliper bracket bolts?

I managed to round off one of my caliper bracket bolts, so I want to replace it. Problem is I can't find those bolts anywhere, even the Jag dealer said they were "obsolete" and didn't think he could order them. Can someone tell me if they know of a source for them or even what the specs I need to look for from a hardware distributor? I can't imagine the XK8 is the only use of that particular bolt. Thanks for any help.

If you are able to remove one of them, take them to a hardware store and have them match it. The thread, diameter, and length are nothing special. A hardware store that specializes in bolts and fasteners should be about to help you. That's what I did last year. The Brembos on my XKR use different bolts than the standard brakes on the XK8. Make sure it's a grade 8.8 bolt or stronger.

You will probably end up with a bolt that takes a larger socket than the OE bolt, but that is not a problem. In fact, that's better because there will be less chance of rounding it off the next time. You will also need to buy an appropriately sized washer. It's unlikely you will find a bolt with an integrated washer in the head like the OE bolts.

If you are unable to find a replacement locally, McMaster Carr will have a bolt that fits provided you can remove one of them. I recommend you use a breaker bar that is at least 15" long, and penetrating fluid before attempting one of the bolts that is still good.

An impact wrench would also be helpful if you can get one in back there.

Thanks! Three of the front four came out pretty easily with my breaker bar. But the last one (of course) is being a major PITA. I got the bolt extractor set today, so number four should be out tomorrow. I did take one of the bolts to a hardware store that has a big selection of bolts, etc., but no match. I will check out McMaster Carr. Not familiar with them.

If you can get the thread, diameter, and length, McMaster's website should be able to find a match.

It looks like part # JZB100010.

Various sites show it as available.

Norri, thank you so much. Without the part number, word searches were fruitless.

Glad to help, I believe the rear bolts are JZB100060, the Brembo calipers are different.

Yup, found some. Of course they're all in the UK, so it will be a few days before I can wrap the job up. With the nice weather finally here, I hate to miss any top-down time.

On a 1997 XK8, I can confirm this is the size:

M12x30
1.75 Pitch

I just had to match this at True Value hardware, after losing one of these bolts on the expressway
