Hey all! I have an '01 XK8 with 118k miles. From time to time, I hear a slight hum coming from behind the back seat. It sounds like it's behind the passenger side seat back.

I'm worried it could be the fuel pump going out. Any ideas?

I don't hear the hum all the time - just every once in a while.

They do make a slight hum when working - I only notice mine when the hood(roof) is up. I've also noticed on other cars that a pump can be noisier in hot weather. It's important for the longevity of the pump to not let the tank run too low - the fuel cools the pump - less fuel equals higher temperature.

 

I have the hum also.....thought at first it was the amp to the rear speakers. It's been going on for four years. Something is always about to wear out on an older car......Jaguar owners are just a little more paranoid.
