Default Small oil leak, front of the engine.

Greetings!

I am noticing small oil drip around the very front of the engine and not sure if it is front main seal, or should I somewhere else?
Is there some common issue, is it just my old horse and I?

I have the same problem, oil drip from abovew the crankshaft drillind down all over my belts and the crankshaft position sensor. My 96 XJ6 is leaking from under a cover plate held on to the front of the engine with 3 bolts? Does anyone know what the seal under this cover is called so I can order it? Can't find it listed in my manual?

Thanks!

Well, when I did my timing chains, and removed the crankshaft pulley, I was surprised to find an O-Ring seal on the cone assembly that locks the pulley in place. It was not included in the kit I ordered for the timing chain work, so I had to go to the local dealer and get one. Perhaps this is the source of your leak? If you clean the area real well, and it does not seem to be coming from the timing cover seal where the crankshaft comes through, then maybe this o-ring is leaking. It WAS a PITA to remove the pulley bolt. VERY high torque coming off and going on. I made a tool to hold the pulley and also lock the crank, since I was afraid I would break the aluminum casting on the flywheel housing, the way they tell you to hold the flywheel.

If its under a triangular cover its the Intermediate shaft oil seal.
