Something Happened on The Way To The Forum...
Hi All!
I've been getting an intermittent MIL light and "Restricted Performance" alert for a few weeks now. It seems to happen most when I have been running at highway speeds and then slow or stop. It says "Bank Two Lean" (as I recall) and was told it was probably an O2 sensor.
When I went under the hood of my XK8 "Galore" - both my Cats have Bond Girl names - to adjust the pax low beam, I discovered that the intake tube and the cover for the air filter had come off.
I reinserted the intake tube into the air filter housing, and resecured the cover for the air filter. The intake tube didn't seem to fit very well, and I'm sure it's loose if not disconnected again. I'll look again shortly.
Lo and behold, I no longer get the restricted performance alert when it's cold and slow, and far less often when it's warm and slow. Seems less frequent and more intermittent now.
Could the problem actually be caused by an open air filter cover and disconnected air intake tube?
Thanks In Advance (TIA)!

A disconnected Air Intake (arrowed in red) would make little difference but a leak from an open Aircleaner box lid (arrowed in blue) could weaken the mixture by pulling unrestricted air instead of drawing it through the filter element.

A more regular scenario is a break in the inlet trunk between the MAF and the Throttle Body which causes chaos with the fuel trims.

Check for splits in the convoluted section of the trunk.

Graham has you covered but I'll add, Very odd the top would come off there are 4-5 latches holding it on. The air intake came out because the box was moving about ensure you have the rubber mounting connected and the rubber isn't broken (hence it holds nothing) you can get knock offs for $5.
Hopefully it didn't bounce too much the elbows to the TB would have been flapping and they are known to wear through but if they did you know soon enough.
