Default Sourceing Replacement Key Fob

I've got the OEM key fob for a MY 97. I've had it apart a few times to clean the contacts and change batteries; but now it is beginning to fail... I think the contacts are just worn off.

Is there a recommended source for an aftermarket unit?

So, I just got any old XK8 fob off of ebay, cheaply, that had the correct fcc number (US frequency). I think I paid 10-$15 each. Then used this procedure, allegedly for your model too. This is three fobs and two cars.

https://www.autoreservejaguar.com/ne...xkr-1996-2006/

Worked swimmingly with the three fobs and two cars I already had, giving me six fobs and two cars.

As the instructions make clear. All fobs for a given car need to be programmed at the same time.

Hi,
There are people on ebay who will rebuild the fob for you. They replace the rubber pads with small switches. I've not used them myself but have heard positive feedback. One seller was only charging about £15 for this service. Cheers

You can search Ebay or Amazon for new key fobs. Search for LJA2610AA. I purchased one and it worked just fine, $47. If you need more than one, they also sell them in multiple packs. Check out current Ebay offer https://www.ebay.com/itm/352453160791

Just my experience, but it seemed that people who didn’t know the part number were a bit cheaper. More risk, I suppose, but you have the pictures.

The FCC nomenclature, LJA2610AA , is critical. That assigns the fob a specific wavelength to its signal. Otherwise it will not pair up to the control module. If a vendor cannot confirm FCC numbers, I'd pass regardless of how inexpensive the fob. All the ones I've seen are priced in the $45-$55 range; which IMO is reasonable compared to $150 and up for new OEM fobs.

Note: there is very little effort required to evaluate whether very cheap ones ‘work’. It’s just your tolerance for ‘risk’, and whether you can see what you want to see in the pictures.

Google is your friend. Search and be patient. It took me almost a year to find a working LJA2610AA for a reasonable price ($80US)

Default Ford Focus Key Fob

I purchased a generic Ford Focus (2000-2012) key fob off Amazon. Two for $15 !!! This could be programmed to my 2005 as is or the internals swapped to an original growler fob. The FCC number was CWTWB1U322. This is different for different years. If the FCC numbers match it should be programable to your car. Remember all the fobs have to be programmed at the same time including the original one.

It does seem that the earlier FCC ID: K8597T315 does not map to a Ford equivalent. So you are stuck with a Jaguar fob as you suggest.
