Default Spare Tire Well Question

Is there supposed to be a piece of carpeting or a mat under the tool kit in the spare tire well? I don't have anything like that there but a picture in "The Essential Buyer's Guide: XK8 & XKR" shows something to that effect on page 8. I'm trying to make my car as factory original as possible. Anyone know?

Also, what kind of valve stem caps came on the 97 XK8, plain black ones or some kind of chrome?

Thanks!

BillyRay,

No carpet but there was a hard moulded liner available which utilised the little available space around the wheel with storage pockets. I haven't got a copy of the book you mention but it's likely to be this.

Valve caps: every Jaguar I've had came with the plain black ones but there's six-sided stainless steel or chrome available either plain or with Jag logos both from the dealer network and many independents.
