squeal when cold
Anyone have a squeal upon start up when cold in their xk8? I thought it was the fan belt at first. There is a knock and then like a clutch engaging then the squeal like a worn bearing. Car is in park. IT will stop after about 3-4 minutes, but it will make the dogs in the neighborhood bark it is so loud. ANy ideas? thanks

What year is your Jag? How many miles? The reason I ask is I have a '97 with 65k and I am going through the same thing. I replaced both idlers and the belt only to shread the new belt twice! So I have been poking around to see what the hell is going on. I just noticed the drive pully on my P/S pump is beginning to walk off. This throws off the alignment and creats havoc with the belt.Take a good look at yours. It sure sounds similar.

Sounds like what mine has been doing lately. I'm gonna check my p/s pulley. I just figured it was the cold. It's been mid-30's in the morning and it does not sqeal in the warmer afternoon weather (Texas weather...). I have a '97 xk8 conv with 78k.

Hi,
I have the same problem, you can dust he belt but the sqeal will come back after a few trips. Its a know issue with the belt quality - it gets stiff in the cold and squeaks; after a few mnutes the rubber beocme soft and pliable again and the squeal goes away.
The knocking you hear could be the air condiitoning comperssor turn this off and try again to see if that noise goes away.

We have these belts and are in Texas, too. I have to be honest, I haven't heard of any belt complaints. Not just from the ones I sell, but none of them.
