Default steering wheel problem

Have 2005 XKR conv. Steering wheel memory does not operate properly. Only goes to down position about an inch then steering column button has to be pushed again and again to get into proper position. Any ideas? Thanks

The position potentiometer on the tilt motor has gone intermittent. If the resistance signal blips the column stops, because it in effect does not know where it is.
The only fix is a new motor assy., unless someone has found a source for a potentiometer these days.

Cheers,

That's exactly the problem I had and spent many hours trying a variety of solutions given by a number of members of this forum. None of them worked for me for any length of time so eventually I found my own answer as detailed here.

It's been in almost daily use for well over a year now and has been faultless in performance.

Same here, I performed this fix over a year ago, and the tilt work every single time. I commute to work most days, so it is hundreds of times by now. It has been tested in a wide range of temperatures, too, from 15 F to 100 F.

For completeness, there is another long thread talking about cleaning the worm gears of the tilt motor assembly. While some folks report success, it does not seem to be as permanent a solution as this one.

Best of luck, keep us posted.
