Default Steering wheel replacement options/compatibility

I want to replace the black leather/brown wood steering wheel in my 2001 XKR with an all black wheel (either black wood or black leather). Two main questions:

1) The 2003+ steering wheels are said to not fit a 2001 because of the adaptive cruise control. But I'm assuming that if I swap out my cruise control buttons for the 2003 buttons, it shouldn't be an issue and everything else should fit. Is that a correct assumption?

2) I read on here somewhere that XJ6 steering wheels from the same year are a direct replacement (and they look the same). Is this true, and if so, what other models are compatible? XJ8?

Alternately, has anyone just tried wrapping a leather cover over the wood bits?

I didn't want to replace the original steering wheel on my MK2 but it needed an upgrade. I ordered a leather wrap kit from Wheelskins in the States and it's great. Excellent quality and fit. In addition, the price was reasonable.

Fraid I don't have an answer for you. However, adaptive cruise control was a (relatively rare) option on later X100s

I've searched high & low for this answer only to find conflicting results. I want to put a 2001 XK8 wheel on my 2000 XJ8 . Has anyone here became enlightened on this matter ?!

Here is one I just found on eBay. Pricey, but looks great.

you have too much money! I buy covers from ebay for about $10. It takes about 1 hour to install but they look like original.

Without pics for proof, this is just fake news.

Looking on the Jaguar Classic parts page, steering wheels are marked as compatible with both the X100 XK8/R and the X308 XJ8/R:

I have a 2000 XJ8 steering wheel that I've re-dyed and ready to go into my 2001 XKR, so with luck it'll be a simple swap.

Update: the XJ8 steering wheel was a direct bolt-in swap, no problems at all, and the volume control at least still works fine.
