Steering wheel won't drop down
When I switch off and remove the key, the wheel moves all the way in and up as it should. However, when I come to start up again, it moves fully out to my preset position, but will only move down about 1/2". When I try to move it down 'manually' by pressing the button on the steering column, it moves down in small jerks and I have to push the button 3 times for the motor to kick in normally and move the wheel to its proper position.
I have tried resetting the seat/wheel memory buttons, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?

There is a potentiometer associated with the movement motor that is a common problem. Some have removed the motor/pot assembly and cleaned with electrical contact spray cleaner. The up/down motor is not hard to remove.
I set the memory buttons on each side of the 'dead' spot and used the memory to cycle the motor across the spot. That fixed it for awhile but the problem came back.
A dealer will replace the entire motor/pot assembly.

I know on my 97 the wheel would go in and out fine and up but to come back down it would move a tiny bit then stop. Hitting the button did no good so I gently hit/pulled down the wheel down while hitting the button then it would start going down fine. I did this process several times and it didn't do it again while I owned it.
It had not been moven up or down in ages so many she was just a bit STIFF???
