stress test the chain tensioners?

Looking to replace my 2000 xk8 which was totaled in Feb. Looked at 2 yesterday, not even close to the condition mine was in.

2 more today. one is a 2002. When I asked if chain tensioners had been replaced, they said mechanic did a stress test and everything is good????

What is that?

Maybe he thought it was too stressfull to check properly.

It is a test on the car and owner. He/ she drives really hard every morning -when the engine is cold- and if there are no signs of nervous breakdown and the engine continues to run the test is considered successful.

If you are considering taking this test, four leaf clovers, rabbits feet plus crossed fingers are strongly recommended. Prayers optional.

And the conclusion is that unless they can show you the receipts for the actual replacement, it didn't happen. Be even more suspicious since they were willing to tell such a whopper.
