Greetings Cat Enthusiasts, My 01 XK8 convertible with 75K miles has a strong fuel smell in cabin after accelerating at highway speeds in order to pass. Punching it. Fuel pump was changed 6 months/2,000 miles ago by Jag pro here in Palm Beach County, FL. I changed fuel line filter at 60K miles 3 years ago. No apparent leaks in engine compartment.
The wealth of knowledge and insight within this forum is my first go to source.

Maybe the Fuel Injection rail Dampers leaking on 4.0L, then it evaporates and difficult to locate. The 4.2 L has this happen sometimes.

 

do the 4.0 L engines have the same dampers on the rail ? I don’t know, just asking ?

My 2000 Convertible had a strong gas smell on startup and shutdown. I could find no leaks or any hose issues. I cleaned the TB and ran a tank of gas with fuel injector cleaner (Techron) and the smell went away. Car also runs better!
