My wife's XK8 passenger side rear fender has a rust spot and it's not getting any smaller. I'm wondering if anyone is parting out a car would be willing to cut a 6-7" piece out of the passenger side rear (right rear) fender and sell it to me so I can weld it into her fender.
You could get a piece of 2x6, cut the wheel opening circle out with a jig saw, & grind/sand the rest to the shape to make a buck. Then it's simple to clamp sheetmetal to the top of the buck & hammer shape it to fit. Just do a little at a time & don't try to make the edge bend all at once. Two light taps are better than one hard blow...
HTH,
You can buy a repair strip that goes all the way round the arch though a bit expensive at £155 ( I could cut the bit out you want or cut it in half and post it to you if they wont post it ) Maybe resin and filler is the way to go and check the fuel filler drain is not dumping water behind the panel .
I didn't realize they made rear wheel arch patches for these cars. I found one on the US eBay site that is from the UK. Cost was about $200 inc shipping, but its worth not spending the time shaping the piece that I need out of sheet metal.
I sandblasted the rust spot a few years ago and patched it with Mar-glass (Bondo with fiberglass), then just used a spray can to paint it to see if the rust would come back before getting the entire fender repainted. It bubbled up and cracked within a year, so I will be cutting they entire area out now. No idea why just in this are (fuel filler on opposite side of the car). When I cut it out I may find out why.
Right rear fender under reconstruction. It looks like the beige mastic was holding moisture in resulting in the rust. I had something similar occur on a truck a few years back.
If you have some magnets, stick them on the opening around the repair. It helps keep the parts level with each other and will hold things in place while you spot weld around the whole thing. Don't try and weld a seam of more than a 1/4 inch,
Your fill in piece is right at perfect, so you must or already have this knowledge, just trying to encourage you on the journey.

Yup, magnets and welder tomorrow. Green tape for St. Patrick's Day, Cheers!
