Oil Pan Leak Common?
Hello, all!
Anytime something remotely goes wrong with my beloved F-Type I immediately come to this forum. I drive a 2015 R that I acquired with only 19,000 miles on it.
I took it in for an oil change today to my independent mechanic, and they found that the oil pan is leaking a bit of oil. To remedy this they are going to replace the pan gasket.
Is this something to be really concerned about, or is this a common occurrence in vehicles? (Forgive my ignorance, I don’t know a lot about the mechanical aspect of vehicles, particularly Jaguars). Has anyone experienced this before on their F-Types?
Thank you!

My 2024 P450 with 450 miles is currently at the dealership to address a slow leak from the oil pan. They are determining whether the pan surface was improperly machined or the seal was not applied correctly at the factory.
Oil pan leaks are not routinely reported here.
First action is to have the undertray removed, then take pictures...THEN clean up any oil.
Monitor the issue. If there are not any drips noticeable under the car, have the oily area investigated at the next oil change. (Pics then, too!)

If the leakage is towards the right-front, it is possible that the oil filter wasn't reassembled correctly. I did that once.
The oil then leaks down and coats the pan.

That sucks. I have a 2024 too. How did you discover the leak? Oil puddle, oil level alert?
Upon receiving the car I put it on my lift and checked the underbody to make sure all was well. I noticed the underbody tray below the oil pan has a felt type material bonded to it and it was a little oily. I removed the tray and discovered the drips on the oil pan. The car was built in 06/23 and had been at the dealership for over a year slowly leaking but not to the point where it dripped on the ground. The weep appears to be coming from the left rear corner of the mating surface between the block and the pan.

If by “concerning issue” you mean further or hidden damage to the engine, the answer is NO. Unless you had a major leak that resulted in lack of lubrication (and that does not seem to be the case), the work being done will end the matter.

Ok, thank you for that reassurance. Yeah, definitely no major leak.
The brake vacuum pumps fail. If you call leaking tons of oil failing. A LOT. To the point that there are none currently available at FCP and similar. They have to be replaced. Resealing them doesn’t work. The housing warps. The other common leak is from the oil filter housing. I recommend not using aftermarket oil filter kits. The factory ones are cheap enough. Personally, I would not let the mechanic change the oil pan gasket until all other items have been resolved.
Yes oil pan leaks are more rare but the gear driven vacuum pump is a known leaker. It can leak from the base and that's the gasket but there have been reports that the hoses can also leak and they use O-rings.
Also when changing the vacuum pump drain the engine oil or put the front of the car up high so the oil does not pour out.
I agree with Robtrt8. Do the vacuum pump first and see what you have. My bet is the oil pan is not leaking.

I would monitor it...
I took my XF to an independent dealer as they were in my town when the coolant pipe issue surfaced... They took all of these pictures of oil everywhere...
Not to say these folks are like mine, but many times an old Jag comes into shop and $$ come into play
In all the years I've been on this forum I don't recall oil plan leaks as a thing

Sorry to hear that AZP450. Please come back with what the findings are. I can’t see the machining being the issue, but you never know.
It was determined that the oil pan was okay and new sealant was applied, so I'm hoping that's the end of the issue. In an unrelated repair, the windshield washer reservoir had a slow leak so the tech replaced it. The rear bumper needs to be removed to replace. After putting it back together he started the car and now the gauge cluster is dark. They were unable to resolve the issue so now a Technical Assistance case has been opened for the instrument panel. So, one thing after another...
Our cars for both better and worse are sort of handmade....from the videos on youtube at least a lot of human input is there...which I actually like - lots of humans. Sort of like Porsche. I find the car to have been very, very well made (my N of 1). But, if a tiny spec of sealant got missed....humans....it sounds like it is all fixed now. Not a design flaw (look at EJ motor oil starvation issues to find oil pan design problems that are real).
