Default Subwoofer

I don’t have a subwoofer on my 2001 xkr. Is this unusual or were some cars made without them? Is there any way of telling if I should have one but someone’s removed it? Many thanks and a merry Christmas!

Just to add to this , I’ve been and had a quick look at the car. None of the speakers in the car have alpine or Harmon kardon on them that I can see. There are a couple of bundles of wires in the area of the subwoofer that look like they were put there by the factory. If I shouldn’t have a subwoofer does anyone know if this wiring is will allow me to fit one? I know they put the wiring in for most if not all options even if they weren’t fitted. Thanks

Is your 2001 XKR Convertible? My xk8 was Convertible and it had tge 2 rear speakers by tge seat. On the premium sound system mode button you can select Sun Wooder level and the amplifier is supposed to send those signals to those 2 rear seat speakers. I had mine out and they were definitely not pure sub woofers they play general frequencies but are encased in sub boxes.. there was a change to the sound system regarding this around 2000,2001. So anyway from factory it's sort of a hybrid. My amp had gone bad for those rears. I found a factory one on line and it made a huge difference. My speakers are labeled Alpine. If you have a coupe I believe it has 1 sub in the rear package shelf, but not positive.

Assuming you have the coupe since you mentioned the rear parcel shelf in an older post.

The easiest way to check is that the premium ICE has an amplifier on the top of the CD rack, the base system doesn't.

The internal trim piece is still fitted over the hole in the shelf, which looks to be plugged with a foam pad on the base system. See the 5th pic. in this post from tiago sm:

The sub wiring will be there, but doesn't go anywhere if there's no amp fitted.

Coupes have the subwoofers, at least with the Alpine system like mine has. What the convertibles are fitted with is substandard in my opinion.

Looks like I have the base system then. I just wanted to make sure it hadn’t been removed as I like to keep things as they were. Thankyou all for your help.
