Suspension work to be carried out - have I missed anything?
Hi guys, newbie looking for some advice please….
I’m taking my 2001 XKR in for some suspension love and care as there are lots of creaks and rattles present – I’ve been meaning to get this done since I got the car. I’d love to attempt this myself but I don’t have the space/time/skill/patience so it’s going to my local trusty Jag indy.
Plan is to drop the front subframe and replace all the bits that might have gone/about to go/will go in the near future plus give it a clean and remove surface rust and treat. The plan is to replace the following:
Upper shock mounts replace (car is sitting 1inch lower at front so these are pretty much done)
Lower and upper ball joints replace (there's play in some of these, so thought best replace all)
ARB links
ARB bushes
Tie rod ends
Lower shock bushes
Subframe bushes
Vee mounting
Engine mounts
All wishbone bushes
Steering rack mounting bushes
For the rear the plan is to replace:
Rear shock isolators
ARB links inc rubbers
ARB bushes
Lower damper bushs
Upper spring isolators
I’ve got Powerflex parts for the front wishbone buses, front and rear ARB mounting bushes and rear ARB link rubbers
Question is – have I missed anything that you'd suggest getting looked at the same time? I’m assuming the actual shocks are ok – they are the CATS ones so I really don’t want to have to replace one of them! The car doesn’t bounce or rock when pushed so I think I’m good.
OrangeXKR,
You seem to have included a comprehensive list with perhaps just a few Bushes missing from the list of rear parts.
Panhard Bushes
Subframe Bushes
Thanks for the reply, I've actually got all those bushes as part of the complete Powerflex set I managed to get cheaply off eBay - but time/money constraints mean they won't get fitted till next year.
The car is at the garage now having the work done and the mechanic has discovered a rust hole in the chassis rail behind the front crossmember (now repaired), he's also welded up some rusty holes near the rear crossmember area too.
Just need to save up to tackle the rust on the sills and wheel arches then I'll be happy!
Yep, I had to do mine a few years back. X100’s are prone to corrosion in the areas you describe. I coated mine with high-Zinc content paint which I think looks better than Waxoil.
