Swap AJ26 engine for AJ27 is this possible?
Hey folks
As the title suggests, I wondering if I can swap a 1996 AJ26 engine in my 1996 xk8 for a 1999 AJ27. I have a 99 xk8 convertible in my possesion which I'm going to break but the engine is sound and has a rebuilt gear box so I'm wondering if I can simply swap E.C.U's, keys, and transponders to make it work or am I'm missing lots other things? The gear box is a straight match so that's coming to me but....can I just swap both out?
thanks for your input in advance

Mmm. Everything is possible, and you have a complete donor car, but...
AJ27 has 4-wire coils and different VVT setup. The 99 ECM will cover that (different connectors, though), but the wiring could be a minefield. You will need to research how deep you need to dive to marry the old and new looms up. Engine loom will go OK, but downstream of the multi-way plug atop the trans?
The least problematic way is to swap cylinder heads, etc. - i.e. just to change the block, but a lot of work.
.
Here's a couple of links to threads from twomotox and MFoncerrada8 to get you started.

Trans will go without change, afaik.
Drastic surgery - what is ailing your existing motor?

Cheers MichaelH. Kinda what I expected. I'm not into changing the wiring loom or connectors to get the engine to work. Just hoped it might be an easy swap if I had the main right components to do it.
