Default Thermostat Housing replacement??

I'm replacing the thermastat in my 2002 XK8 and one of the bolts in the aluminum housing sheered off. I've tried drilling it out, but really cant get a good angle, and broke several bits along the way....

I'm refering to the vertical aluminum housing that is bolted to the top of the water pump. I'd like to remove it so I can properly remove the sheered bolt in the shop, vs still mounted on the car. I can't seem to reach the rear bolts of this vertical housing without having to take off the intake manifold. I cant beleive this is the only way to get at this piece. There just doesnt seem to be enought room to get a wrench in there.....?

Has anyone removed this housing before? This is my first time to really do any work on this car, so Im learning as I go....
