Default Throttle position sensor

2002 XKR
While driving car displayed code and went to idle. Disconnected and reconnected battery and car ran normally
shows Code P-1121 - pedal sensor range performance
checked PP1 and PP2 with meter
.93V @ idle to 2.87 at full throttle
.60V at idle to 4.53V at full throttle
duplicated this 2 times.
Question:
is this correct PP1 and PP2 span?
If not what is correct?
Thanks for the help

No it isn't, I'm afraid.
Try a Google on 'jaguar forum TPS replacement' for the sad and bad news.

Default Throttle body sensor

Steve thanks. The tread was very informative. I gather that the correct range is 0-5 V on PP1 and PP2? I will try to find a used TPS to replace my defective one.

At the moment it's the only solution.
IF you're feeling brave you can do what I did, pull it apart and use electrical contact cleaner but I don't know how long that will last and it's at your risk JIC it conks out on a level crossing.
Good luck.

When the TPS on my 2001 XK8 failed, I got away with a battery disconnect / reconnect with a P1121 code clear about six more times before it died completely.

You are almost certainly living on borrowed time with this TPS.

Are the PP1 and PP2 the two terminals on the TPS?

Default Throttle Position Sensor

I am going to try Steve's advice and remove the unit and clean it with electric contact cleaner. It might help and at this point it can't hurt. After cleaning I will check PP1 and PP2 again and post the readings. In any case there appear to be two places on the web that rebuild throttle bodies. I will check them out. Has anyone had experience with a rebuilt TB?

You've got nothing to lose except a bit of downtime.
Let us know how you get on.
There'd be no harm in giving the wipers a bit of a bend to increase contact pressure.
Put it back together with sticky tape (Micropore is very good!) and check volts before re-installing it.
I found a WallWart in my box of them that gave 5V regulated so I used that.
If the output is still not near 5V at WOT then clean more aggressively - you could use chrome polish or even a very fine wet + dry.

Are the correct PP1 and PP2 outputs 0-5V and one is redundant and a check on the other or is it an ETCS-1 system that tracks a differential in the 2 voltages?

It tracks the differential - look at the graphs on my post.
One track is linear, the other has a built in offset resistor on the bottom end.
Both wipers end up at end-of-track at WOT so both should give very nearly the full volts across the tracks at WOT.

Thanks. I re-read your earlier post more carefully this time and it has all the data I need. Jaguar makes it hard to do a work-around don't they.

It can only be deliberate.
I can get a non-contact programmable version made but the setup costs are around £1000 and it has proven impossible to get a bulk buy sorted.
I suggested to the manufacturer they could make good money by offering them but no interest.
I'd imagine a bit of tinkering with an op-amp could derive the second output from one linear pot.

I finally addressed the TPS problem. The sensor was cleaned carefully with electric contact cleaner and reinstalled. To date I have driven about 500 miles and so far so good. No new error codes and the car runs normally.

Others have Cleaned and re-installed the TPS with mixed results, but it sure is the first thing to try.
