Timing chains! Argh....
Hello all..
A question for the UK Midlands A26/27 owners...
Does anyone know or can recommend a facility to change my chains, for a sensbile price?
It seems in my history the "Chains" done at 100K miles however.they probably only did the upper tensioners..
As I can now hear when cold more chain noises than the ususal silence!.
When hot, all sound fine, but as we know these are known for hiding until too late!!
So please suggestions for a Worcestershire based V8 Guru to do my chains from Top to bottom!
Thanks all

There is another typical noise these engines make when cold that essentially disappears when the engine is up to thermostat temperature . And that is piston slap.
It’s very annoying at times, I know, but if one can let the car warm up for a couple of minutes before driving off, then most of the noise has abated. With a few minutes of driving, it’s gone altogether.
I never bury the gas pedal until the car is fully up to temp. One can minimize additional piston wear (and noise) by keeping the rpm low until the piston is fully expanded, which by design, is the temperature at which the thermostat opens. If I recall correctly that’s 84 C (183.2 F).
without being on the spot, I couldn’t say where your noise is coming from. But just wanted to point out that these engines have more than one source for unwanted engine noise, it might not be your cam chains.

.Also I do always try to let it warm for a few minutes and be gentle on the throttle till warmer!

A quick update over a couple of days silence reigned!
Then this morning semi warm, after fitting some tyres..
I started up again, and the front end is silent and sweet. But the chattering noise for a few minutes was from the rear of the engine!
So now baffled..Runs and sounds sweet , very quiet noisiest things are the injectors! not bad at 130K miles..
So weird, as the VVT is at the front, so that is not chattering! Hmm..
