Timing chains and tensioners
Is there a trusted brand to buy for these parts? There is a whole kit on eBay with all the new tensioners and chains for £500. Is that about right? Thank you ☺️
For tensioners, go to your local ford dealer and buy the ones for the Lincoln LS with the 3.9L V8, also get the bolts because they are shorter and you absolutely need them. It will be a quality part and will not cost you an arm and a leg. The chain itself, I don't know. I wouldn't trust an ebay kit unless it's Jaguar or Ford branded. 500 quid seems too much for tensioners, but I imagine the chain factors into that substantially.
Cool. Thank you. I didn’t think about going to a ford dealer 🤙 I’m guessing they will sell the primary and secondary ones as the engine is the same? Probably an obvious stupid question lol
Greg,
You likely won't have much luck with Ford this side of the pond. I tried the local dealer when I was checking parts sources and they gave me the reindeer in the headlights look when I quoted the part #s, although YMMV.
IIRC SNG Barratt (forum sponsor) has three different-priced kits so you have a choice. Make sure wherever you buy from that the kit has the correct primary slipper guides. See this thread of dan02xk8:

I think this is the correct kit:

I’ve just had a chat with Nene Jag, they will do everything for £1500 ( primary and secondary) That is such a great price and it means I will have more time to mess with my other car. Also means I don’t have to buy the tools I’m only ever going to use once. I’ve asked them to do a wheel alignment check too ☺️
