Default Tiny grilles on either side of the steering column

The left one doesn't appear to have anything behind it. The right one appears to have something behind it.... beeper or cabin temp sensor for HVAC?
I would like to use one of them to mount an antenna switch. Anybody done this? How do you remove the grilles?

The right one is an aspirator fan for the temperature sensor.

Cherry makes a switch that fits nicely in the space for the left one. I stock these for my navigation auxiliary video kit...PM me if want one for cost plus shipping.

When you remove the footwell panel, the grille fastener is easy to remove.

Jusr remove those two nuts at the bottom to get the panel off? What holds it at the top?

There are metal male tabs at each of the top corners of the panel. When the bottom screws are out, pull straight out on the panel. The tabs are just snap fit.

You can see this done in the first part of this video.

Got it ..... the old eyes aren't what they used to be. Mistook the flanged hex-head screws for nuts. Hearing isn't that good either ... I actually think the factory sound system is pretty good.

Steve,

Is it the Cherry YR series that fits in the hole? I was going to do the simple rear window control and I think the switch would be better there than the center console. I think I would swap the valet switch location as well to make it more visible.

The Cherry SR series round (bottom of page): http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogusd/646/1890.pdf

Others may fit, I have not tried them.

You need fine tune the fit slightly with a small file or exacto knife.

It looks best in a non-black car if you paint the grill satin black.
