This has probably been posted before, but at the risk of being redundant let me post how I can live with it for now.

At this time I'm hesitant to do the computer reset for fear it might cause other problems, so here's what we do.

Our major "jolt" happens as the cars slows down to about 3 mph, so we simply put the shifter into neutral at about 4 mph. Once car comes to a stop, I put it back into drive. All is smooth.
