Default Top stuck in partial up position

2003 XKR Vert. Putting top up, stopped approx 1" from closure. Pressing switch brings no movement or sound. Any suggestions?

Tried search function w/ no joy. Will go back thru posts manually and search.

Thanks in advance for your input. Lurked long before buying in March, enjoy your comments daily. What a great forum!

Welcome to the forum!

Are you hearing any noise from the pump? First thing that comes to mind is that you are low on fluid. Know where the pump/reservoir are located? In the trunk behind the right hand partition. To close manually turn the brass 'T' valve counter-clockwise some to release the pressure. That should allow you to pull the top down. Reservoir is clear and you should be able to see the level.

If it is not fluid you probably have an electrical problem with the microswitch controls of the top operation. Lots of posts on the subject. Remember that Vbulletin software will not search on 3 characters. Add an * wild card after 'top' and that should find everything you need. If not, holler back.

Remember to close the 'T' valve when finished!

Did the latch get in the proper position to catch the top hook and pull it down? Open the top again and then try closing and make sure the latch comes out of the header properly to grab the top.

Default Many thanks!

Appreciate the help, gents. Topped up the hydraulic fluid and manually closed the top. Between the two, got full function back.

Next step will be to order the bit that reduces the pressure. Having researched malfunctioning tops on the site, I will do everything I can to avoid this problem. Any other preventitive suggestions?

Thanks again for your prompt replies!

If you are losing fluid from the tank then you should look to see if your lifts are leaking. One way is to look in front of the rear wheels after the car has been sitting overnight or longer and see if you have evidence of a fluid leak. The other is to remove the rear seat and look closely at the rams/lifts. Most of the time if the latch hose or latch is leaking you will see it at the header. If you need additional info on the roof system you can go to my page JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource and see all you need to know.
